Francesco and Monique Ballone with their granddaughterMy grandfather, Francesco Ballone,  was born in 1934 in a town near Agrigento, Casteltermini. He went to elementary school and after he worked with his father who was a farmer. Unfortunately at that time, it was hard to survive working like farmer, so Francesco decided to emigrate to France to work in a mine. He left Sicily in 1958. He arrived by train in northern France, Valenciennes and then Vieux Condé. He did not speak french and it was difficult to look after yourself in all the affairs of everyday life...........
